Chapter 1191: Extra Chapter: Persuasion

Editor: Henyee Translations

Ning Gui raised her head abruptly, looking at Gu Yang in shock. “What?”

Gu Yang explained, “He had a second personality, Ning Jin. Ning Jin was born with a sociopathic personality. There’s a movie called Bad Seed that’s quite similar to his situation. The two personalities are independent of each other, so he doesn’t have Ning Jin’s memories.”

Ning Gui was stunned. She suddenly remembered how Ning Shen had denied her accusations when she angrily confronted him about wanting to kill someone.

“In other words, he didn’t kill her?” she asked.

Gu Yang nodded.

Ning Gui lowered her eyes. “But they’re the same person.”

Gu Yang clarified, “According to the law, if a mentally ill person cannot control their actions and causes harm, they will not be held criminally responsible after legal procedures verify it. Instead, they will be required to undergo medical supervision.”

“Although Ning Shen is not a good person, Ning Jin shouldn’t be the one to take the blame.”

Ning Gui understood. She could think of Ning Shen and Ning Jin as two distinct individuals.

“Do you feel better now?” Gu Yang asked.

Ning Gui nodded lightly, her eyes still downcast. “But it was Ning Shen who released the dog to bite my mother. He has always threatened and controlled me.”

Gu Yang pondered for a moment before concluding, “You can accept that you like him, but you won’t let go of all your grudges and be with him.”

Ning Gui nodded.

Gu Yang said, “That’s good. Ning Shen has a foundation in China, and there’s no evidence for many of his past actions. He won’t face the death penalty, but the Xiao family has gathered substantial evidence, so he should be sentenced to life imprisonment.”

“Life imprisonment means at least thirteen years. You won’t have any interactions with him for that time,” she added.

Gu Yang felt that Ning Shen, who had skirted the law, was unworthy of Ning Gui, who was passionate about scientific research. She couldn’t bear the thought of Ning Gui waiting for Ning Shen for ten to twenty years.

In her brother Xiao Yize’s words, Ning Shen deserved to be imprisoned, and Ning Gui should focus on contributing to the country.

As a psychiatrist, Gu Yang had dealt with many relationship disputes. In Ning Gui’s case, where there was an unhealthy attachment, her stance was clear:

Persuade them to break up! The cleaner, the better! A death row criminal is not worthy of anyone’s love. No matter how sincere his feelings, he deserves the harshest punishment!

“Actually, I believe the reason you have feelings for Ning Shen is that he’s been the only person you’ve interacted with since you were a girl. Even if you’re tempted, you haven’t had any other choices.”

“You should try to connect with other people. Once you engage with a wider circle, you may realize that he’s nothing special. You deserve better.”

“Of course, love itself isn’t a necessity. You don’t have to force yourself into anything. Dating should be about what makes you happy. Focus on what you enjoy and what is meaningful to you. It’s enough to find joy in your own life.”

When Ning Gui heard Gu Yang’s gentle words, she felt enlightened, and the heaviness in her heart began to lift.

It seemed that during her time with Ning Shen, she often felt more fear than joy.

Ning Gui asked, “Are you very happy with Feng Jue?”

Gu Yang thought of Feng Jue–always scheming and possessive, yet always respectful of her choices. She smiled. “Yes, I am.”

Ning Gui looked at Gu Yang’s gentle and sweet smile, not fully grasping the depth of her feelings.

This was what love should be like.

“I understand now.”

Though she didn’t have anyone else she liked at the moment besides Ning Shen, there was something she cherished even more–her passion for scientific research.

It wasn’t just about love; it was a calling. She was willing to devote her life to scientific discovery.
