Then she sat in the chair and burst into tears. She wondered why she had been so foolish, thinking her parents didn’t love her. She remembered not going to see them when they rarely visited, which must have hurt them deeply. They must have thought she was a very thoughtless daughter.

After reflecting and questioning herself, An Hao realized that love can be stored in one’s heart. She used to lock herself in her own thoughts, unable to feel her parents’ love. However, after hearing Qin Xue’s words and truly trying to feel, she realized that everything she assumed was wrong. The psychological gap made An Hao unable to find a proper way to vent her emotions, so she just kept crying until she felt relief.

After washing her face, she looked at her tear-streaked reflection in the mirror and started to laugh suddenly. She felt so relieved not to be depressed anymore.

When An Hao returned to Qin Xue’s house, Chu Xiaoqiao had already tidied up the room they were going to live in. Qin Xue also finished cooking. It was simple food; she hadn’t made chicken in a pig’s stomach yet.

She planned to teach An Hao makeup after dinner. Then she would come to the kitchen to teach Chu Xiaoqiao how to make radish pickles and chicken in a pig’s stomach, so Chu Xiaoqiao wouldn’t be totally lost.

“Hey, this dish tastes nice. What is it?” Chu Xiaoqiao picked up a piece of a flat, golden item and asked Qin Xue.

“It’s just Chinese yam. Can’t you recognize it?” Qin Xue looked at Chu Xiaoqiao. She simply steamed the Chinese yam, mashed it, mixed it with a bit of flour, and pan-fried it into a yam cake. Chinese yam is good for nourishing the stomach.

“Chinese yam? It doesn’t taste like it at all.” An Hao picked up a piece to taste after hearing that. There wasn’t even a hint of Chinese yam flavor.

Qin Xue explained her method of cooking the yam and the ingredients she used. She thought that they were hilarious; she had to explain how the food was made during dinner. It seemed that Chu Xiaoqiao needed to learn how to cook quickly, so she wouldn’t have to explain how dishes were made in future dinners at her home; that would be perfect.

“So there’s so much to learn from a small Chinese yam, and there are so many ways to eat it.” An Hao and Chu Xiaoqiao learned another skill and gained knowledge they didn’t have before.
