Chapter 1228: Chapter 1222: Craving for Pork with Salted Vegetable_1 Chapter 1228: Chapter 1222: Craving for Pork with Salted Vegetable_1 “Oh, big talk there. Do you think nothing would happen if you were around?” Chu Xiaoqiao didn’t know about Xue Ling’s abilities, so she laughed when she heard her say that.
“Exactly, although I’m small, I can take care of the two kids.” Xue Ling responded to Chu Xiaoqiao with a protective voice.
“Although you’re little, your heart is not.” Chu Xiaoqiao looked at Xue Ling with astonishment, wondering how this tiny creature was thinking about protecting the two kids.
“Of course, I’m their aunt, if I don’t protect them, who will?” Xue Ling gave Chu Xiaoqiao an indifferent glance, implying that harming them would mean crossing it first.
“Okay, you’re the aunt, you’re number one.” Chu Xiaoqiao kept her hands busy while bantering with Xue Ling.
“Hmph, you’re just jealous because my abilities are stronger than yours.” Xue Ling looked at Chu Xiaoqiao with some contempt. As if anyone could hurt her with their capabilities.
“Alright, I won’t argue with you.” Chu Xiaoqiao glanced at Xue Ling’s tiny arms and legs, wondering where her confidence came from.
“Exactly.” Xue Ling thought it was boring, so she bantered back with Chu Xiaoqiao.
“Can you two stop arguing about who’s stronger?” Qin Xue listened to their back-and-forth, she wanted to tell Chu Xiaoqiao that even ten of her were no match for Xue Ling. But she held her tongue, knowing that she would need a satisfying answer if Chu Xiaoqiao questioned why.
“Sister Qin Xue, what yummy dishes are you thinking about making today?” After hearing what Qin Xue said, Xue Ling didn’t argue with Chu Xiaoqiao anymore, but was now interested in food.
“What do you want to eat?” Qin Xue asked Xue Ling, she would cook whatever Xue Ling felt like eating.
“I want to eat sweet and sour ribs.” The thought of the appetizing flavor of the sweet-sour sauce made Xue Ling salivate.
“Sister-in-law, I want to eat it too. Can we add one more dish?” Chu Xiaoqiao also wanted to eat sweet and sour ribs. She loved the combination of sweet and sour flavors.
“Add what dish?” Looking at the two foodies in front of her, Qin Xue realized she had stumbled upon a couple of true gourmets.
What Qin Xue didn’t know was that they were really just looking forward to tasting the spiritual spring water mixed in with the food. Since all of Qin Xue’s dishes were made using the spiritual spring water, they tasted different from ordinary dishes.
“Pork with salted vegetable.” Chu Xiaoqiao loved the salted vegetables that were steamed together with the meat. The vegetables soaked in meat juices were very delicious and were heavenly when mixed with rice.
“I can do that, but we’re heading to An Hao’s place later and I can’t whip up the pork dish in a short time. How about this, tomorrow you and grandma come over for dinner, I’ll cook it for you.” Qin Xue thought about it, the pork dish was rather complex.
The pork belly needed to be washed, then blanched in water, skewered to poke holes in the skin, deep-fried till golden and soaked in the blanching broth till it was soft and wrinkled.
Finally, the pork was cut into chunks and marinated with five-spice powder, salt, soy sauce, Shaoxing wine, and ginger juice. The marinated pork chunks were then placed in a bowl, topped with the marinating broth, and a layer of cleaned preserved vegetables. The dish had to be steamed for one and a half to two hours until soft. When it was ready, the dish was simply turned over into a big bowl, and the mouth-watering pork with salted vegetable is ready to be served.
For other versions of the dish such as taro pork and red bean pork, the method remains the same except that the preserved vegetables are replaced with desired ingredients. While it may sound simple enough, the process is quite elaborate. So, if Chu Xiaoqiao wanted it, she really couldn’t whip it up in a jiffy.
