Chapter 763: Chapter 763: Does being a lawyer make so much money?

After having breakfast, Housekeeper Piers took Old Mr. Smith and Clara Smith to their rooms to rest.

The rooms had been prepared in advance by Grayson Piers. Both rooms were on the first floor, with Church Smith’s room next to theirs.

Unfortunately, Church Smith had returned, but now he could only pretend to be sick in the hospital.

Once Grandpa and Clara were settled, Teddy, Tate, and Threo had started playing together, completely forgetting about their mom.

Abigail saw this and shook her head with a smile. She was hesitating whether to contact Benjamin Jones when his call came through.

“Benjamin,” she greeted. Ever since she had realized Benjamin Jones’s feelings for her, despite his assurances not to feel pressured, she couldn’t reach out to him casually as before.

Not knowing certain things was unintentional, but once aware, it was inevitable to have reservations.

Benjamin was fully aware of Abigail’s thoughts. Hearing the apologetic tone in her voice, he said, “I called to talk about Brandon Piers’s trial. I took his case.”

Abigail, who had been busy since her return yesterday, hadn’t heard that Benjamin took Brandon’s case. But after a brief thought, she guessed the reason and felt grateful. “Thank you, Benjamin.”

Entrusting Brandon to anyone else wouldn’t have given her as much peace of mind as leaving it to Benjamin. She felt guilty because her call was about Brandon too.

“Although part of the reason I took the case was for you, it’s mainly for business benefits. You know that winning Brandon Piers’s case means a multi-million dollar fee for my team. Moreover, Brandon promised to give my firm all of Piers’s future legal needs. Considering Piers’s scale, our annual profit could exceed a billion. So, who do you think should be thanking whom?” Benjamin asked over the phone.

Abigail’s mouth opened slightly. “Is being a lawyer really that lucrative?”

It seemed that just handling Piers alone could bring them billions, let alone other cases…

Abigail suddenly felt like saying goodbye for interrupting.

Benjamin could imagine Abigail’s expression on the other end of the line and smiled slightly. “Not enough to starve.”

“Cut it out.” Abigail, amused by his words, rolled her eyes. Her guilt lessened significantly but quickly turned to the main issue. “What’s his current situation? Is it serious? Do we know who’s framing him?”

“Do you have time now? Come to the firm; it’s better to discuss in person,” Benjamin said, hearing Abigail’s urgent questions and pausing before replying.

Abigail realized she was too impatient and responded with a “hmm,” but couldn’t resist asking, “Can I see him first?”

“Let’s do this. Come directly to the courthouse. I’ve submitted the bail documents; he should be out by the afternoon, and then we can talk in detail,” Benjamin suggested. He had a feeling Brandon was hiding something from him and thought bringing Abigail along might uncover more.

Abigail took a deep breath, relieved that he could be bailed out, arranged a time with Benjamin, and hung up the phone.

Just then, Pullan walked in. “What’s up?”

“Ma’am, some netizens found photos of you winning an award abroad. It’s all over the internet now. Kelvin Max’s team asked if you want to open a social media account. It’s an opportunity to gain followers and communicate directly in the future without worrying about media misinterpretation,” Pullan asked softly.

Abigail thought about it. Previously, she had always been passive during public opinion events due to not having a good voice. This time, she could take the opportunity to establish her own account.

“Sure, let Kelvin handle it,” Abigail said after making up her mind.

After Pullan left, Abigail opened her phone. Overnight public opinion had led many to believe Brandon was likely framed. Her participation in international medical competitions and winning awards had also gained her goodwill, restoring Brandon’s image somewhat.

Kelvin Max quickly got the account set up, certified as a researcher at the medical university.

Sitting in the car with her phone, she hadn’t decided what to post yet but saw followers increasing rapidly. She was a bit stunned. In her previous life, she was so busy with work that her social life, online and offline, was almost nonexistent. It wasn’t until her rebirth and subsequent online storm that she understood the importance of having a voice in front of the public.

She thought gaining followers would be hard, but to her surprise, the numbers rose quickly with just an empty account. After some thought, she posted, “Hello everyone, I’m Abigail Green. Thank you for your attention.”

The scholarly tone of her post quickly attracted a flood of comments. The content varied, from inquiries about Brandon’s situation to weight loss tips, but the most common request was for her to post a selfie.

Abigail was the type who posted selfies for only one person in her Facebook Circle. Now, seeing so many people asking for her selfies, she was a bit confused and looked up at Pullan, who was driving. “Am I beautiful?”

Pullan’s leg twitched, causing the car to tremble slightly. He looked in the rearview mirror in disbelief, thinking, Ma’am, are you trying to kill me?

Abigail was puzzled by Pullan’s reaction. “Is it a hard question?”

Abigail also felt that the media exaggerated. In her previous life, she didn’t think she was particularly beautiful. After her rebirth, weighing 200 pounds, it was initially hard to accept, but after some psychological adjustments, she no longer cared. Slimming down just made her healthier. Beauty or ugliness wasn’t her concern. Her family often mentioned, regretfully, that she looked better heavier. So seeing so many people requesting her selfies made her curious about her looks.

People often have biased judgments about themselves.

“No… no, ma’am, did I offend you somehow?” Pullan, seeing Abigail’s seriousness, trembled slightly again.

Abigail, “…” Is this question deadly?

Seeing that Abigail didn’t understand, Pullan cautiously suggested, “Maybe you can ask Mr. Piers later?”

Abigail realized Pullan was scared. He was probably afraid the jealous husband Brandon would get mad at him. She couldn’t help but laugh and glanced at Pullan with disdain, then put her phone away, ignoring the idle online followers.

Relieved, Pullan drove steadily toward their destination.

As they got closer to the courthouse, Abigail felt her previous relaxation dissipating, replaced by an uncontrollable urge to see the man inside.

They had been separated for so long, but she hadn’t felt anything until she learned about his trouble. She had lost sleep for days. Now, she felt inexplicably nervous, adjusted the waistband of her dress, slung her bag over her shoulder, took a deep breath, and heard Pullan say, “Ma’am, we’re here.”
