Chapter 761: Chapter 761: Abigail’s Cheap Mother and Brother

Aunt Claudia walked curiously to the staircase and saw several people standing in the previously quiet living room. Among them was Old Mr. Smith, who had stayed in Durin.

Thinking she had seen wrong, Aunt Claudia squinted, but it was indeed Old Mr. Smith. Standing beside him was a tall, beautiful, mixed-race foreigner. She had seen him at the hospital in Durin and remembered he was Old Mr. Smith’s grandson. Therefore, the person in the wheelchair he was pushing must be Old Mr. Smith’s long-lost daughter.

Although Aunt Claudia had never met Clara Smith in Durin, she knew why Old Mr. Smith stayed there. She happily ran back upstairs, “Abigail, Old Mr. Smith is back. His daughter and grandson are here too. Hurry and get Teddy; let’s go downstairs.”

Abigail was stunned. Grandpa was back? Clara Smith and Daniel were back too?

“What are you still standing there for? I’ll feed Teddy,” Aunt Claudia said. She didn’t know the intricacies between Abigail and Old Mr. Smith, but she knew that Abigail and Old Mr. Smith got along well. Besides being her master, he was also like a godfather to her.

Abigail was very happy to hear that Grandpa was back, but her feelings were complicated about Clara Smith’s return. Still, she listened to Aunt Claudia, got up, and let her take care of Teddy.

When Teddy suddenly had someone else taking care of him, he thought Abigail was leaving again. He threw away his bottle and quickly crawled off the bed to chase her.

Abigail looked at her son, amused and helpless, letting him follow her.

Aunt Claudia scooped up the little guy. “You little ungrateful one. Now that you have your mom, you don’t want Aunt Claudia anymore?”

Teddy struggled in Aunt Claudia’s arms. Seeing that Abigail hadn’t left his sight, he tilted his chubby face toward Aunt Claudia and grinned, calling, “Nana, Nana.”

Aunt Claudia was helpless against his charm and cursed him playfully under her breath.

Abigail smiled as she tidied herself up.

Once she was ready, she took Teddy downstairs. The people were still in the living room.

But it wasn’t like she expected. Eva Bell had put away her usual sharp demeanor in front of Abigail and was sitting elegantly in the main seat, chatting with Grandpa.

Abigail keenly sensed the subtle atmosphere between Eva Bell and Clara Smith.

Hearing the commotion, the people downstairs all turned toward the staircase.

Eva Bell was annoyed by Abigail. Seeing her coming down with the child, her face darkened. Yet, because Old Mr. Smith and Clara Smith were present, she restrained herself, not wanting them to notice her situation in the Piers residence.

Abigail didn’t care about Eva Bell’s thoughts at all. She greeted Grandpa Smith and nodded at Daniel. Her gaze finally fell on Clara Smith.

After three months, Clara Smith had gained some weight and looked much better than she had in Durin. There was no more pain or struggle in her eyes, only a hopeful glow. Abigail hesitated for a moment before calling her, “Aunt Smith,” then turned to the housekeeper in the corner. “Uncle Piers, please arrange three guest rooms for Grandpa and the others. They must be tired from the trip; let them rest first.”

Abigail glanced at the luggage in the living room, guessing they came straight to the estate from the airport.

Daniel quickly said, “Sis, two rooms will be fine. I’m just dropping Grandpa and Mom off; I’ll leave soon.”

“Eat first. Leave after that.” Abigail always had a good impression of this half-brother, Daniel. After all, besides Grandpa, he was the main reason Clara Smith recovered so quickly.

“Alright.” Daniel didn’t refuse anymore.

Only after they finished talking did they realize everyone else was watching them. Abigail especially felt Eva Bell’s discontent.

Abigail acted as if she didn’t notice, leading Teddy down the last step. She pointed to Grandpa and said, “Teddy, call great-grandpa.”

The title was technically incorrect. Strictly speaking, she should have called Old Mr. Smith “grandfather,” but since she had grown up with Grandpa and always called him that, she naturally let Teddy do the same.

Besides, in her current situation, calling him grandfather was inappropriate, so Teddy could only call him great-grandpa.

Little Teddy was already very articulate. He stared curiously at Church Smith for a long time, seemingly trying to remember who he was.

Old Mr. Smith leaned toward Teddy. “Little dummy, don’t you recognize your great-grandpa?”

Grandpa then tickled little Teddy with his beard. The little guy giggled as he dodged, making the whole living room lively with his laughter.

After playing for a while and becoming familiar, the little guy started calling “great-grandpa, great-grandpa” and slipped from Abigail’s arms. He curiously clung to Abigail’s leg, looking around at everyone. He was especially excited about so many people suddenly appearing at home.

Clara Smith’s last memory of Teddy was when he had accidentally crawled into her hospital room. In just a few months, the little guy was already steady on his feet. His big eyes were full of curiosity about the people around him, making her heart ache and swell.

She hadn’t witnessed Abigail grow up, but she wondered if she would be lucky enough to witness Abigail’s child grow in the coming years.

It was a regret.

But also a blessing.

She had lost her daughter but had regained her in this way.

As Clara Smith’s thoughts were in turmoil, she suddenly felt something on her leg. Startled, she looked down to see Teddy at her wheelchair, his little hand on her leg, looking up at her seriously. His soft, innocent look melted Clara Smith’s heart. She reached out tentatively to touch him.

The little guy wasn’t afraid of strangers and felt the kindness in Clara Smith’s touch. He happily circled her wheelchair, making everyone else laugh with joy.

Only Eva Bell sat in the main seat, feeling completely ignored.

Her face was ashen. She couldn’t understand when the Smith family had become so close to the Piers that they could stay over. She also didn’t understand why Teddy, who wasn’t close to her as his grandmother, was so familiar with Old Mr. Smith and Clara Smith, who had just returned from abroad.

No, she couldn’t even understand why Clara Smith turned out to be Old Mr. Smith’s daughter.

Eva Bell had many questions, but unfortunately, no one present seemed willing to answer them. She couldn’t lower herself to ask, so she sat there haughtily, only to see Abigail and the others heading to the dining room after exchanging pleasantries.

Completely overlooked, Eva Bell angrily slammed her cup onto the table.

The sound drew everyone’s attention to her for a brief moment.

But in less than three seconds, Abigail resumed inviting everyone to the dining room, ignoring Eva Bell’s anger.

Eva Bell felt humiliated. “Abigail Green, do you not see your elders?”

Abigail stopped and turned to look at Eva Bell. She was about to speak when Clara Smith, sitting in her wheelchair, spoke first. “Are you talking about yourself?”

Eva Bell didn’t understand what Clara Smith meant, containing her emotions. “I’m speaking to Abigail. She’s Teddy’s mother and Brandon’s…fiancee, which makes her my junior.”

The last three words were said reluctantly.

“Oh, I forgot to tell you. Abigail is your future daughter-in-law and my goddaughter.” Clara Smith emphasized the last two words.

She meant to make it clear that since Abigail was her goddaughter, she was considered part of the Smith family and someone Clara Smith would protect.
