Chapter 925: A Talented Chef Produces Talented Students

Editor: EndlessFantasy Translation

After the slaughterhouse processed the cows that morning, they immediately set aside the finest cuts of beef for Gu Zi, along with a generous supply of brisket.

The factory owner valued his employees, and they, in turn, were grateful. They knew he adored his wife, so they made sure to curry favor with the boss lady.

When Gu Zi saw the brisket being delivered by Su Shen’s worker, her face lit up with joy.

As soon as she spotted the bag, she envisioned a delightful feast: braised brisket and curry beef for everyone to enjoy. Although she couldn’t eat much herself, the sight of her family relishing the food she prepared filled her with happiness.

She also planned to have Su Shen take some zongzi to share with the workers after the Dragon Boat Festival. As the boss’s wife, she felt it was essential to make her presence felt during the festivities.

Just as she was about to start cutting the brisket, Su Shen entered the kitchen, gently taking the knife from her hand. “How do you want it cut? Let me handle it,” he offered with a warm smile.

Relieved to be freed from the task, Gu Zi happily directed him, turning the cooking into a collaborative effort. Watching him follow her instructions to create the braised brisket and curry beef brought a smile to her face, especially when she tasted the final product—it was surprisingly delicious!

“No modesty needed here! See? A talented chef produces talented students. Little Su, if you stick with your master, you’re bound to strike it rich in the kitchen!” she teased.

Su Shen played along, saying, “Then I’ll listen to my master. Little Su is serving up the beef now. You take a break; you’ve been standing long enough.” Although he wanted to express something deeper, he held back. Last night had been incredibly passionate, and he worried about overdoing it again, afraid of tiring her out or causing her discomfort.

Gu Zi wasn’t oblivious; she could read between the lines. Remembering their steamy night, she felt a rush of warmth and quickly decided to distract herself. The allure of the older man was undeniable, and she knew that dwelling on those thoughts would only lead to more temptation.

Meanwhile, over at the Gao family’s home, Gao Lang returned with his wife and children. They gathered together to prepare their own zongzi, mirroring Gu Zi’s family traditions. However, they waited until the day of the Dragon Boat Festival to make their rice dumplings.

Gao Ming had grown closer to his father and took on the role of the little teacher, instructing Gao Lang on how to fold the zongzi, often expressing his honest exasperation. “Dad, you’re doing it all wrong! That’s not how you fold it!”

With a cheeky glint in his eyes, Gao Ming demonstrated the technique using the bamboo leaves, but his gaze kept darting toward the sofa where his mother and younger brother were watching TV. He hesitated to approach them, fearing that the warm atmosphere would shatter if he intruded.

For now, he stuck to guiding his father in wrapping zongzi. Though he hadn’t mastered the art himself during his time at Su’s house, teaching a kitchen novice like Gao Lang was well within his abilities.

Gao Lang’s son’s teasing didn’t faze him; in fact, he occasionally broke into a smile during their playful banter.

Grandma Gao watched the father-son interaction with delight, continuing her own task of wrapping zongzi. Making rice dumplings was her forte. She was quick and skillful, so she didn’t need the maid’s assistance. However, this was her first attempt at making meat-filled zongzi.

Until she had tasted the ones made by Gu Zi, she had always considered meat zongzi the least appealing option.

But after trying Gu Zi’s meat dumplings yesterday, she found herself surprisingly enamored with the flavor. That very evening, she had sought out Gu Zi for the recipe, and now, with the festival approaching, she was determined to make a batch. She wanted to prepare enough to share with Gu Zi so she could get her feedback on the taste—after all, constructive criticism was essential for improvement!

This year, having the whole family together for the Dragon Boat Festival felt more significant than ever; it was almost a celebration in itself.

However, the lingering tension between Gao Ming and his mother still weighed on her mind. With Gao Ming’s wife willing to move back in, Grandma Gao hoped that time would mend their relationship. As a mother-in-law, she chose to focus on understanding her daughter-in-law, wishing for the day when she could fully embrace Gao Ming.

After lunch, Su Shen planned to take the family out to enjoy the dragon boat races by the river. Gu Zi had expressed excitement about the event, prompting Su Shen to secure VIP seating, ensuring they wouldn’t have to contend with crowds.

Gao Ming had heard about the races from Su Li and was eager to go; he hadn’t seen a dragon boat race yet.

However, Grandma Gao expressed her concerns. “We didn’t buy VIP tickets in advance. Watching from the riverbanks might be dangerous; you’re still just a kid and might get lost in the crowd. How about we save it for next year?”
