Chapter 365: Chapter 367: The Half-Elf’s Faith Journey in Dawn City (Part 1) (5000 words) Chapter 365: Chapter 367: The Half-Elf’s Faith Journey in Dawn City (Part 1) (5000 words) “Clayson! By order, this is a military command directly issued by the City Lord!

Remember, although you are the most talented among us, you were picked up by Black Iron City! It was Black Iron Castle that nurtured you, without Black Iron Castle you would have been eaten by those filthy monsters long ago, you owe everything to repay Black Iron Castle!”

“If I refuse?!! This isn’t the first time, what I’ve given is more than enough to pay for my life ten times over!!”

“No, you have no right to refuse, your only task now is to go to the Vampire’s city, then cooperate with them to develop bows and arrows, while also spying on their intelligence, bringing back every piece of news about that city.”

Bang~
After a fierce argument, the Half-Elf messenger slammed the door and left.

Clayson Grey Claw, this young Half-Elf clenched his fists tightly, his eyes filled with anger.

“Am I just a tool in your eyes??

I developed the most powerful bows for Black Iron Castle, upgraded the siege crossbows, made the sharpest arrows, boosting the power of Black Iron Castle by at least thirty percent, but in the end, you still don’t trust me??

Just because I’m not a descendant of the Grey Claw Tribe, but someone you picked up from an enemy tribe after the war??”

After a long while, Clayson sighed despondently.

“Fine, if I have to go to the Vampire’s city, let’s go, maybe they didn’t plan on letting me come back alive.

It’s actually funny, if I hadn’t developed such good longbows, maybe I could still live a peaceful life like before…

Damn bastards, to hog this merit for themselves, they actually want to send me to my death at the Vampires’!! Damn it!!”

But no matter how much he complained, a military order was a military order, and Black Iron Castle’s commands could possibly be relaxed for other Half-Elves, but for him, they were exceptionally strict.

Since he was picked up from a tribe annihilated by Black Iron Castle after the war, if not for his outstanding research talent, he might have already been ousted from the army.

Standing up, he slightly adjusted his blue robe, Clayson’s expression was subtly complex.

“These Vampires probably couldn’t produce such a finely luxurious robe, does the Vampire Castle also lead to other cities on the surface?

If not forced, I’d indeed be curious about the surface…

Legend has it the surface has warm sunlight, in the winter you can see snow, there is endless food, the land is fertile, rarely encountering danger…”

After thinking for a moment, Clayson shook his head with a wry smile.

“Maybe, I’m overthinking, those are human cities, but I’m going to a Vampire Castle.

Their city must be built in dark, damp caverns, gloomy without light, with ceilings full of bats, and the surrounding rock walls covered with green moss…”

Thinking of this, the young Half-Elf felt somewhat helpless, for who would willingly go to such a place?

“Master Clayson, everyone is ready…”

Suddenly, a knock on the door interrupted Clayson’s wild thoughts. Taking a deep breath, the young Half-Elf then made up his mind.

“After coming back this time, I will resign from the military, even if I just open a small shop manufacturing crossbows in the city I will no longer serve the so-called Grey Claw Tribe.

You have never considered me one of your own, when it comes to credit you take it yourselves, but when it comes to damned missions like going to the Vampire city, you leave it to me…”

Bang Bang Bang~
“Master Clayson??”

Ee-ya~
Clayson pushed open the door, his gaze calm as he looked at the Half-Elf soldier before him.

“I’m coming, is the team ready?”

The Half-Elf soldier, dressed in black leather armor, carrying a longbow, nodded, “Ready, sir.”

“Hmm, let’s set off.”

“Yes!”

Led by the soldier, Clayson reluctantly turned his head for a last glance at the house he had lived in for over a decade, a small, low room made of Black Iron Stone, which held countless memories.

Perhaps after he returns this time, this house would no longer belong to him, because this place was a military base.

Walking on the dark road, a Magic Lamp was lit at a great distance.

There was no distinction between day and night in the Underworld, the light was always this dim, only the city’s clock could tell the time.

Upon arriving at the gathering location, the presence of three hundred people felt oppressive.

The team leader stepped forward and saluted.

“Lord Clayson!”

“Has everyone arrived?”

“Yes, all three hundred are here. You are to lead everyone to the third military camp to board the Black Beak Giant Eagles, which will transport you to Dawn City.”

Dawn City, upon hearing this name, Clayson couldn’t help but twitch at the corner of his mouth.

A vampire city named Dawn City… By the Half-Body God above, that was the funniest joke he had ever heard.

But in front of his subordinates, he had to remain serious.

Though only twenty-five years old, Clayson had secured the position of deputy captain of the arrow-making department through his exceptional talent.

If it weren’t for the fact that the damn captain had claimed his last bow and arrow design as his own, and even, out of greed for merit, had sent him to a vampire city, he might have been promoted to captain by now.

Thinking of this, Clayson’s expression turned sour as he glanced at the crowd.

“Everyone, let’s move out!”

Although it was an arduous task, Clayson didn’t want others to sense anything was amiss about him.

This group wasn’t actually composed of Black Iron City’s most elite bow and arrow makers; Clayson could recognize many individuals who were unpopular with superiors and were often ostracized within the military.

Shaking his head internally, indeed, those sent to the vampire city were a bunch of unlucky souls.

His mood darkened even further.

Without further thought, he led the team out of the military camp.

But the moment they stepped out of the camp, on the streets outside, a group of people dressed in pure white Priest robes handing out food to begging elderly and weak half-elves caught Clayson’s attention.

He knew who these humans were; they were missionaries from the Dawn Sect who had arrived at Black Iron City yesterday.

Although it was odd that a vampire city had human missionaries, Clayson didn’t pay much attention to these priests.

He held them in contempt–Priests? Were they like those in the half-elf temple in Black Iron City who charged exorbitant fees for healing?

Hehe, such a hypocritical bunch of bloodsuckers, disgusting…

Thus, while he would exclaim, “By the Half-Body God above,” he never believed in the divine; he was firm in his belief that there was no deity in this world worth his devotion except himself.

As the two groups passed each other, unexpectedly, a female missionary from the Dawn Sect gave a gentle smile instead of responding to Clayson’s indifference with coldness.

That warm smile made Clayson feel a bit better.

“If there were more smiles like that in the vampire city, maybe this trip would be worthwhile…”

Clayson thought wishfully, but then shook his head. Meeting such smiles in a vampire city? He must be dreaming.

Perhaps it was because they had come to Black Iron City, this majestic and free city, that they were able to smile like that.

Thinking this made Clayson’s face fill with pride. Although he didn’t approve of the Grey Claw Tribe, Black Iron City was different; it was the city that had nurtured him.

Carrying a mix of emotions, Clayson led his team to the third military camp and boarded the Black Beak Giant Eagles.

He had no longing for the vampire city whatsoever, not in the slightest, and feared that it could be even worse than what the wandering poets had said about Vampire Castle–possibly a disastrous experience.

But, there was no resisting it.

The imaginative young half-elf came back to his senses only after the Black Beak Giant Eagles had flown away from Black Iron City, feeling something as he looked back at the looming Black Iron Castle.

He inexplicably felt that this journey to the legendary dark and bloody vampire city might hold different encounters.

“Could it be that the environment is even worse than imagined? Oh God, spare me…”

After nearly ten Sunshine Hours of flight, the fleet of Black Beak Giant Eagles gradually came to a stop in front of a military fortress.

The scenes that followed struck Clayson as quite strange.

Because he saw Beastmen inside the castle known as Grey Stone Castle–yes, it was surprising enough that vampires had human Priests working for them, now there were Beastmen too??

Those vampires had enslaved so many races??

Though eager to learn some information, under the strict surveillance of the guards, Clayson could not seize the opportunity.

After entering the underground passage from a cave behind the Grey Stone Castle, he entered a gigantic cavern.

Clayson would bet that these Beastmen were intent on hollowing out the mountain, otherwise why would such a massive cavern be excavated.

Then he saw the legendary exclusive mount of vampires, a gigantic bat.

By the Half-Elf god, this was a creature even larger than the Black Beak Giant Eagle. They had said that the human Priests came riding these monsters, but unfortunately he had missed it as he was experimenting with a new type of bowstring material.

But riding it felt quite pleasant.

This young half-elf’s mind was incredibly active, always thinking.

Maybe Lide knew his habits well enough to call him a lively fellow.

Hoo hoo~
Flying inside the cave was particularly thrilling; Clayson felt his heart almost leap out. How could these bizarre giant bats make such rapid, sharp turns unscathed??

If it were a Black Beak Giant Eagle flying in the cave, it would probably crash into the wall during a turn before long–what strange creatures.

It felt like he had been flying for ages…

However, after the initial thrill, Clayson quickly grew bored and sleepy.

Damn, he missed his laboratory. Just this morning he had acquired some new Demon Beast sinew to experiment on; perhaps this unique material could improve his last bowstring…

Just as Clayson was losing all interest, a sudden exclamation came from beside him, followed by an enclosed rock wall appearing in front.

There was no way out!

Clayson’s eyes widened, his doziness instantly vanished as he exclaimed loudly,
“Stop, damn it, there’s no way ahead!!”

But this passage was only a few blade lengths long, and they arrived at the rock wall within a few breaths.

The giant bat beneath Clayson ignored his shouts and continued flapping its wings, crashing towards the uneven rocky cliff.

Just as Clayson’s body stiffened, ready to jump off the Magic Language Bat, another cry of alarm came from ahead–the Magic Language Bat that reached the rock wall first had passed directly through it.

A Space Gate??

Clayson’s face stiffened, feeling suddenly relaxed, then somewhat embarrassed–had his reaction been too extreme, a bit humiliating…

Indeed, after his Magic Language Bat flew through, it didn’t crash into the cliff but arrived in a new place instead.

Clayson felt a chill as he entered a space filled with a gray aura, but before he could react, he had already flown out.

Passed through the Space Gate?

Before Clayson could recover his senses, an intense cold aura hit him face on.

The clothes he wore in the Underworld, which were considered many, felt like he was bathing naked by a clean pool in summer in this cold.

Under the high-speed flight of the Magic Language Bat, he even gulped down a few mouthfuls of cold air, causing Clayson to shiver, his teeth chattering.

But this young Half-Elf could no longer care about anything else; his heart was completely captivated by the scenery before his eyes.

Snowflakes, like white feathers, drifted down from the sky, carrying a cold yet extremely unique sensation, melting quickly when lightly gripped in his hand.

Though slightly dimmed by the snowfall, to Clayson, it was as if his eyes were being illuminated by a Magic Lamp.

Completely different from the Underworld.

Looking into the distance, the view was tremendously expansive; he could even see the sky far, far away.

It was magical.

Clayson felt his soul being cleansed.

Looking down slightly, the earth was already covered in a thick layer of white snow, the whole world blanketed in white.

“Too shocking?? Is this the surface world?”

“I know this stuff falling from the sky must be snow!!”

“Hahaha, it’s so unbelievable that such a thing as snow exists in this world, is it a gift from the Creator God??”

“God of Half-Elves, it’s just so wonderful!!”

The young half-elf, upon witnessing such an unexpected sight, instantly forgot his previous worries, his face filled with joy and smiles.

Moments later, after all the Magic Language Bats had exited through the open Space Gate and the leading vampire had made sure everyone was accounted for, he spoke loudly.

“Friends from Black Iron Castle, welcome to Dawn City. I will take you to the new district of Dawn City, and I hope you leave behind wonderful memories in this great city…”

His voice echoed in the sky, and then the Bloodline, without waiting for others to respond, directed the Magic Language Bats towards another direction.

All the Magic Language Bats followed promptly. At this moment, Clayson came to his senses and took a deep breath as he saw the city covered in ice and snow.

“Dawn City.”

“How, how can this possibly be a Vampire’s city??”

Looking down from the sky, Clayson couldn’t even see the end of the city with its numerous towering buildings, which were no less impressive than the thousand-year heritage of Black Iron Castle and even broader in construction.

With a heart full of shock and disbelief, Clayson’s mouth hung open as he gulped down some cold air before coughing several times to recover.

As they flew over the city, Clayson’s eyes filled with astonishment.

Not only was the city extensive, but shockingly, there were so many humans walking back and forth on the streets.

Is this a joke??

Vampires sending humans to preach was one thing, but in such a large city, few Vampires stood out while humans were everywhere.

Is this really a Vampire’s city???

Carrying a sense of peculiarity, Clayson, guided by the Bloodline leader, slowly descended onto the central square of the city.

Upon their arrival, the residents who were spectating immediately crowded around.

The goblins chatted and laughed with the Dwarves, humans and Beastmen stood shoulder to shoulder, the air filled with a lively atmosphere of gossip and spectacle.

“Damn goblins, you won the bet, guess correctly that we’d land on this square, damn you, why were you right??”

“Hahaha, do you Dwarves have rocks for brains? It was announced around the square, these five Gold Pucks are mine now!!”

“Is this what Half-Elves look like?? Hahaha, just like the painting on the propaganda wall…”

“Tsk tsk, are these guys really from the Underworld? Although their lower halves are different, their upper bodies look pretty capable, what are they here for?”

“Have you not heard? This group of Half-Elves is here to join the Magic Industry Research Institute…”

“Sss, I’m so envious, the Magic Industry Research Institute pays two Gold Pucks a month…”

“Pah, what do you know, three!! My brother’s neighbor’s daughter’s friend is a member of the Magic Industry Research Institute! I know!”

“What, it increased again?!! I must go home and teach my son a lesson, always failing exams, if he doesn’t pass into the High-level College of Dawn Academy to become a member of the Magic Industry Research Institute, I’ll break his legs! Always busy watching how buildings are heated and vegetable greenhouses are constructed, it’s infuriating!”

Clayson, watching the crowd around him buzzing with excitement as if observing rare animals, stood dumbfounded for a moment.

Dwarves, goblins, Beastmen, humans, and even a One-eyed Giant, and what even is a Double-headed Ogre??

How can all these different beings live so harmoniously in one city??

What happened to the so-called Vampire city??

How did it turn out like this??

And what about this Magic Industry Research Institute, the heating…

Right now, he really wanted to turn his head and ask the Bloodline leader if they had come to the wrong place.

And these humans, don’t they see they are an army? Why do they dare to discuss so openly??

Where exactly is this place???

This young Half-Elf felt bewildered amidst the cold wind…
